MIDE Graduation Ceremony 2017 – Keynote Speaker Prof. Dr. Thirlwall

Start 19. Juli 2017

This years’ MIDE graduation ceremony took place on 19th July at HTW Berlin, Treskowallee Campus. Thanks to Prof. Dr. Dullien, MIDE was able to win the major economist, Prof. Dr. Anthony Thirwall, as a keynote speaker.

After his inspirational introduction, Prof. Dr. Thirlwall welcomed the graduating MIDE students into the insights of the developing world.  He allowed the audience to get to know him better and shared his “heroes” in development economics with the MIDE students.

In his speech, he displayed the latest statistics on global poverty and inequality making the listeners aware of how the world looks like today and the incremental need to join efforts to make it a better place. He also emphasized the importance of obtaining a master’s degree in development economics as the key to undertake a career path in international organizations and/or to pursue a PhD.

He ended up his speech with a question: What is the current population growth rate in Bangladesh? The lucky MIDE student, who knew the correct answer, won the latest version of his book “Economics of Development”.
